Cloud Forest Coffee - Decaf
Cloud Forest Coffee takes pride in sourcing their beans ethically from a community in Ecuador. The community has been struggling against mineral exploration for 20 years. In an effort to create a healthy environment, safe sources of water, and harmony in their communities, they are pursuing different methods of economic growth. They have chosen to grow organic coffee, and Cloud Forest has chosen to support them on their quest.
***Cloud Forest Coffee will be temporarily sourcing their coffee from Chiapas, Mexico while they wait for their Ecuadorian coffee. They are sourcing the coffee from an indigenous farmer's co-op called Yachil, which means 'New Light in the Sky'. The communities that formed the cooperative are supporters of the Zapatista movement. The Zapatistas are a militant indigenous group that formed to resist the oppression of the Mexican government. They are fighting for, among other things, indigenous control over local resources. Standing up to the government has had repercussions for these communities, and many have experienced persecution at the hands of police. The coffee cooperative they work with provides an economic lifeline for these communities and is one of their only sources of income.***
